Join The Freedom Institute in Breaking Cycles and Rebuilding Lives

At The Freedom Institute (TFI), we are committed to breaking the cycles of poverty and incarceration. With an exceptional recidivism rate of just 9% while participants engage in our programs, we empower justice-involved individuals, those experiencing homelessness, and people with substance use disorders to reclaim their lives and build brighter futures.

In 2024, TFI made a profound impact:

  • Helped 140+ individuals secure employment and stable housing through our reentry services.

  • Provided Recovery Support Services to more than 750 individuals in need.

  • Employed 35+ individuals through our Freedom Industries program, offering job training and meaningful employment opportunities.

Why Housing & Employment Matter in Reducing Recidivism

Research shows that stable housing and employment are among the most critical factors in preventing reoffending. Individuals who lack housing after incarceration face significantly higher rates of recidivism, while those with stable housing are far more likely to reintegrate successfully.

A study found that justice-involved individuals who received housing support had a recidivism rate of just 9.6%, compared to the national average of 68% within three years of release (Casebook, 2023).

The Housing First model, which prioritizes permanent housing without preconditions, has demonstrated an 88% housing retention rate, significantly reducing the likelihood of reoffending (Wikipedia, 2023).

Research also indicates that stable employment can reduce recidivism by 13% to 20%, underscoring the importance of job training and career pathways (Springer, 2023).

At TFI, we believe in equipping individuals with both housing stability and career opportunities. That’s why we not only provide housing support, but also partner with local businesses to offer hands-on training in trades like construction, helping individuals build sustainable careers while fostering a sense of community and responsibility.
